BCS Global Markets (BCS GM), a securities broker with a large market share on the Moscow Exchange, has appointed Edward Shek as Head of Equity Trading. He will report to Co-Heads of Global Equities – Luis Saenz, based in London, and Oleg Achkasov in Moscow.
Shek brings more than 20 years of cash equity trading and a background of leading trading departments. He was previously Head of CEEMEA Cash Trading at JP Morgan following its acquisition of Cazenove, where he had been Head of Pan-European Financials Trading, holding responsibility for portfolio management and market making throughout the financial crisis. Whilst at JP Morgan he was responsible for managing cash equities across a number of markets including Russia, Turkey and South Africa. Edward began his career as a trader at Goldman Sachs.
Shek’s experience in Emerging Markets will help drive the firm’s goal to diversify the institutional Equities products by adding new markets, while maintaining and developing BCS’s key trading relationships with clients on both the buy- and sell-sides.
BCS Global Markets is the largest trader of equities and derivatives on the Moscow Exchange and a leading force in Russia’s capital markets. In the UK it has been offering specialist Russian prime brokerage services since 2013. It offers 14-hour cash equity trading over a broad range of services including portfolio trading, pre-pay/pre-deliver FOP settlement and real-time FX hedging. Institutional investors have unique access to high quality Russian small-mid cap stocks and BCS GM recently launched a new Portfolio Swap product that makes trading in Russia easier and cheaper than before.
Bradley Duke, co-CEO of BCS Global Markets UK, says: “Bringing on experienced and talented people like Edward is in keeping with our commitment to investing in platform and people so that we may provide the best service to our institutional clients. We are excited about Edward joining BCS and especially the wealth of experience he brings in Emerging Markets.”
Shek adds: “I am pleased to be joining BCS Global Markets and look forward to further developing the equities trading offering. 2018 has been an outstanding year for BCS from start to finish, from becoming the first Russia broker to list on the New York Stock Exchange to launching the synthetic prime brokerage allowing investors the easiest access to the Russian Capital Markets.”
