Ernst & Young has appointed Stuart Phillips, who has extensive experience of emerging markets and the real estate sector following a number of years in Russia and Kazakhstan, as an audit partner within the Channel Islands firm.
Phillips, who joined the expanding professional services firm in Guernsey at the beginning of the year, spent the previous five years in Moscow. ‘The strength of the firm was very apparent when I visited the Channel Islands before committing to the move,’ he says.
He spent four years in Kazakhstan before the country began opening up to international trading, then moved to Seattle and gained a US certified accountancy qualification before transferring to Moscow.
‘The opportunities within emerging markets over the past few years, particularly India, China, eastern Europe, the Middle East and Brazil, have been phenomenal, and this is set to continue for many years to come,’ says Andrew Dann, managing partner of Ernst & Young in the Channel Islands.
‘Stuart’s 11 years of international experience in a number of locations will further strengthen the Channel Islands leadership team. He also brings invaluable experience in managing people from different cultures, which will be of great benefit to the Channel Island firm of more than 230 people from some 26 nationalities.’
