Oliver Briars, formerly a money manager at Steve Cohen’s multi-start hedge fund Point72 Asset Management, is set to join LMR Partners in December to trade consumer equities, according to a report by Bloomberg citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
Briars also previously worked at Citadel.
LMR Partners, a London-based multi-strategy firm founded by ex-UBS traders Ben Levine and Stefan Renold, manages $12.4bn across its Multi Strategy, Alpha Rates, and Convertible and Capital Structure Arbitrage funds. The firm employs around 60 trading teams covering equities, fixed income, credit, volatility, event-driven, and commodities strategies, with eight dedicated equities teams.
The move comes during a strong year for stockpickers, with equity strategies leading hedge fund gains through September, according to Bloomberg data, amid an intensifying competition for top trading talent. LMR’s multi-strategy fund has returned 7.6% year-to-date through September.
