Fleming Family and Partners Capital Management has appointed Spring Capital Partners to assist with the marketing and client service of their fund range in the UK market.

Founded in 2000, Fleming Family and Partners has GBP4.1bn under management and advice. In 2004, the firm launched Fleming Family and Partners Capital Management (FCM) which is charged with entering into partnerships with talented fund managers specialising in absolute return fund management.

Initially, Spring will be focussing on introducing FCM’s two European equity absolute return funds: the FCM European Total Return Fund, which takes a low volatility approach to seeking significant participation in the market upside together with a strong emphasis on capital preservation; and the FCM European Opportunities Fund, which takes a medium volatility approach (targeting approximately half of the market volatility) and aims to capture a large proportion of the market upside with a far lower proportion of the downside.

Both funds are Dublin-domiciled, Ucits III-compliant funds with Sterling share classes and daily dealing.

Managed by Guenter Ferstl and Reinhard Ploder, the funds were launched in October 2007 although they replicate funds which the two previously managed at Uniqa, an Austrian insurance company where they managed over EUR500m in the two strategies.

Julian Rogers-Coltman, chief executive of Fleming Family and Partners Capital Management (pictured), says: ‘Our background as a multi-family office makes us especially sensitive to the importance of capital preservation for our clients and so our capital management business focuses on absolute return strategies with strict risk controls. I believe that this approach is shared by many of our colleagues in the wealth management sector in the UK. The Ucits III regulations allow our managers to work within strict risk parameters whilst at the same time providing the liquidity expected of any traditional equity fund. We are pleased to make these funds more widely available to the discretionary market.’

Richard Thompson, director of Spring Capital Partners, adds: ‘We are delighted to start working with Fleming Family and Partners Capital Management. We share a common vision with regard to the future of equity fund management under the Ucits III regulations and, in Guenter and Reinhard, FCM has two managers who have more than six years experience managing such mandates. I believe that wealth managers will want fund managers with a proven record of risk control in these difficult and volatile times.’
