Kaushik Murali, a former partner at Goldman Sachs with over two decades at the firm, has resurfaced in the hedge fund world, joining One William Street (OWS) as a Partner and Deputy Chief Investment Office (CIO), according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Murali’s appointment marks a significant hire for OWS, a hedge fund specialising in asset-backed and structured credit investments, which manages $7.5bn in assets.
Murali left Goldman Sachs last October after serving as Head of Macro US Credit and Leveraged Finance Trading having first joined in 2002. His new role at OWS places him in an exclusive group, as he is reportedly the only external partner hired since the hedge fund’s inception in 2008 by former Lehman Brothers MD David Sherr.
OWS, founded by Sherr and led primarily by former Lehman executives, has grown to over 100 employees. Murali’s appointment follows the hiring in October of another former Goldman executive, Shawn Joshi, who joined as Managing Director after stints at Morgan Stanley and Compass Rose. The firm also made a notable hire in December with ex-Blackstone MD John Nusbaum coming aboard as an MD and Portfolio Manager.
