In the three months to 30 September 2019, FUM at Man Group decreased 1 per cent to USD112.7 billion driven by net outflows of USD1.1 billion (comprising sales of USD6.6 billion and redemptions of USD7.7 billion) and negative FX and other movements of USD1.3 billion, partially offset by positive investment movement of USD0.7 billion.  Absolute return FUM increased by USD0.4 billion in the quarter. Flows were broadly flat, with inflows into AHL Institutional Solutions and AHL Alpha offset by outflows from Man GLG’s equity and credit strategies. Merian Global Investors (MGI) is to acquire the multi-asset business from Kestrel Investment Partners. As part of the deal, which is expected to complete in December 2019 (subject to regulatory and shareholder approval), the entire Kestrel multi-asset team will join MGI, including head of desk and lead fund manager John Ricciardi. He will report to MGI’s CEO, Mark Gregory. John is joint CEO of Kestrel, a business he co-founded with the partners of Kestrel Partners LLP in 2011. He has over three decades of multi-asset investing experience, including six years as global head of asset allocation for Alliance Bernstein.  
Cryptocurrency liquidity provider and electronic OTC trading specialist B2C2 has launched a product for trading gold directly against Bitcoin (XAU/BTC). The launch marks the beginning of B2C2’s expansion beyond its core crypto focus and is underpinned by a significant rally in so-called deflationary assets over the past six months that saw gold appreciate 15 per cent and Bitcoin’s price roughly double.    The new product will allow institutional clients to trade gold synthetically with B2C2 OTC Ltd., which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK, via B2C2’s award-winning platform. Aggregate hedge fund industry performance slipped into the red again in September, with the industry returning -0.11 per cent last month, according to eVestment September 2019 hedge fund performance figures. This marked the second consecutive month of negative industry returns, although the industry is still positive for the year, with aggregate year-to-date (YTD) industry returns coming in at +6.35 per cent. Hedge funds posted mixed performance in the volatile month of September, as quantitative, trend-following CTAs declined, reversing August gains, on rising US interest rates, while equity markets traded in a wide intra-month range. The HFR Asset Weighted Composite Index posted a modest gain of +0.01 per cent in September, while the HFRI Fund Weighted Composite Index declined -0.27 per cent for the month, with gains in Event-Driven, Equity Hedge and RVA partially offsetting Macro declines, according to data released today by HFR, the established global leader in the indexation, analysis and research of the global hedge fund industry.   The
