Following difficult conditions for CTAs for most of this year, October has seen significant improvement as all of Societe Generale’s CTA indices returned positive performance. Trend following strategies performed the best as the SG Trend Index was up 5.55 per cent for the month. October was the strongest month since June 2016 for both the SG Trend and CTA Indices, and since February 2016 for the Short-Term Traders Index. Euronext has reported strong revenue growth in the third quarter of 2017, with an increase of 14.1 per cent over Q3 2016 to EUR128.7 million, mainly due to improvement of volumes in a stabilised macro environment. Cash average daily volume (ADV) was up 9.5 per cent in Q3 2017 compared to Q3 2016, to EUR6.9 billion, while market share of cash equities strengthened to 65.2 per cent, with robust yield. OTCX, an over-the-counter derivatives platform, has secured backing from the Angel CoFund as part of its latest funding round. The Angel CoFund is a GBP100 million investment fund, supported by the British Business Bank, with objectives to back promising UK businesses and help develop the important business angel investment market.   In a market in which over 50 per cent of OTC derivatives are traded via chat, email or voice technology, OTCX provides new solutions that help structure price discovery, negotiation and affirmation communication between counterparties. Quant CTA strategies posted the strongest gains in October according to hedge fund data from HFRI. All hedge funds posted strong gains in October, the firm says, and equity and fixed income strategies boosted returns to provide HFRI with its twelfth consecutive positive month and the strongest return since July 2016. The HFRI Fund Weighted Composite Index (FWC) climbed +1.3 per cent in October, increasing the YTD gain to +7.2 per cent and extending the record Index Value to 13,885. PEGAS has launched Congestion Management Products (CMP) on the French Nord and TRS delivery zones, to help the Transmission System Operators GRTgaz and TIGF manage potential congestions on their grids. 

 The Nord and TRS zones are scheduled to merge in 2018 but bottlenecks could still occur in some specific flow configurations. Some can be observed already today, such as during last winter when grids witnessed periods of high tensions. Total volume traded on Cboe Futures Exchange (CFE) year to date in 2017 has exceeded the total volume of all contracts traded on CFE in 2016. Billionaire Mario Gabelli (pictured), the founder of the Gabelli Asset Management Company Investors (GAMCO Investors), is backing New York-based hedge fund management firm Gondor Capital Management by investing in its domestic hedge fund Gondor Partners LP.
