Lugano-based alternative investment manager Insch Capital Management has launched a new BVI-domiciled hedge fund, Insch Insight, which contains a number of protected cell share classes enabling independent managers to offer their own stand-alone funds within a multi-class structure.
The first manager is London-based Charteris Treasury Portfolio Managers, the sole advisor of the Insch Insight Global Macro share class. Charteris was established in 1984 and currently manages assets of some USD100m.
The Charteris sub-fund will invest in global equity markets, with particular emphasis on the natural resource sector. The firm has an extensive track record of identification, measurement and investment in major commodity cycles in gold, oil and metals markets and the stocks of companies active in these markets.
As an integral part of the global macro strategy, Charteris will also invest in G7 government bonds, drawing on its expertise in fixed-income management. All investments in the global macro portfolio will be from the long side, and no derivatives will be used.
‘We are absolutely delighted to have Charteris as the first manager in Insch Insight,’ says Insch chief executive Christopher Cruden. ‘The reputation, record and reliability of Ian [Williams] and his team are second to none in the City. We wanted the best for Insch Insight and we got the best.’
Says Williams: ‘The topicality of these markets has never been higher and the timing has never been better. This fund offers investors an excellent opportunity to apply a coherent strategy with familiar investment instruments – equities and government bonds – while profiting from the continuing boom in global demand for commodities.’
The global macro share class of Insch Insight, which will begin trading on June 2, will charge a 2 per cent management fee and a performance fee of 20 per cent of net new profits, and the minimum investment is EUR100,000.
Insch Capital Management is a privately-owned alternative investment manager that acts as a crossover between a private investment company and a professional services firm, and is active in the areas of asset management for private and institutional clients, investment consultancy and private equity investment.
