Jason Mitchell is rejoining GLG Partners’ investment management team to focus on stock selection in the global environment and social governance area.
After a number of years as a media and telecoms investor, Mitchell left GLG Partners in early 2008.
Since then, he has worked in the private water treatment industry. He has also acted in advisory roles with a particular focus on water and telecoms infrastructure projects in developing countries.
"Jason has built up specialist expertise that will be extremely valuable to GLG as we seek to expand our ESG capabilities," says senior managing director and co-founder Pierre Lagrange. "I have been looking for some time for a way of enhancing the thematic basis of our research in this area by better stock-picking on a global basis, and I am delighted that Jason—strengthened by his industry experience—is now available to take this role."
Since leaving GLG, Mitchell has acted as chief operating officer of Hydrotech International, a water treatment and patent technology company. He has acted and continues to act as special adviser for water and telecommunications infrastructure to the Commonwealth Business Council where he has advised governments and ministries at both the federal and sub-national levels, most recently the Niger Delta states.
In December 2009, he presented at the Copenhagen Climate Summit on anaerobic biological pre-treatment technology for water reuse in mining operations. He has also participated as adviser to the board for the African Development Corporation on infrastructure development projects.
“I am incredibly excited about returning to GLG to help expand the environmental funds,” says Mitchell. “GLG has been both proactive and forward-looking in developing ESG products. This role gives me the opportunity to combine my industry experience in water and cleantech with my background in portfolio management.”
