The London Metal Exchange (LME) has appointed Walid Al Attar as a member of its Aluminium Committee.
Al Attar, responsible for marketing and sales at Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), is the first representative from the Middle East to sit on the committee.
“We welcome Mr Al Attar to the committee,” says Garry Jones, LME CEO and vice chairman of the Aluminium Committee. “The Middle East is an increasingly significant region for the global aluminium industry, so it is appropriate that it is represented on the committee, which essentially acts as a sounding board for the LME’s global strategy in aluminium.”
The LME has worked with the Gulf Aluminium Council to further its relationship with the metals industry in the region.
Al Attar says: “The LME Aluminium Committee is an important forum for advising the LME executive and board on key decisions regarding aluminium contracts. Having representation from the Middle East on such committees is a strong step forward, as it provides an opportunity for the region to exercise positive influence on the global aluminium industry.”
Also joining the LME Aluminium Committee are Christine Keener, vice president of Alcoa Materials Management Europe, and Daniel Eld, global head of origination for Koch Metal Trading Ltd. All appointments are effective immediately.
