London-based asset manager Helford Capital Partners’ Helford Global I Fund is now available for investment to both institutional and professional investors, the strategy having been proved through consistent realised performance.
The fund, a Cayman AIF, was re-launched just over two years ago with seed capital from Helford’s partners.
Helford Global I’s investment strategy has been developed in-house at Helford with a rigorous risk management framework for capital preservation embedded within the model. Helford Global I is Helford’s flagship fund.
Nick Moran the COO of Helford Capital Partners, says: “It’s essentially a systematic trend-following strategy designed to deliver consistent returns while managing downside risk to limit drawdowns. It’s a proprietary model we’ve developed and rigorously tested over several years based on observed patterns in trade performance. The strategy invests across all asset classes in highly liquid instruments.”
The fund is managed by Helford Capital Partners CEO and former Bank of Montreal managing di- rector, quantitative specialist Christophe Sailland, who says: “We employ a proven proprietary model with an in-built risk management overlay which has been tested over many years and de- ployed live for the past two years. The algorithm uses multiple timeframe analysis (short, medium, and long) with allocations made upon confirmation signals whenever a trend is evident. We diversify portfolio risk across asset classes, with our asset allocation providing for a low portfolio correlation.”
Sailland adds: “Within the algorithm we have built a dynamic risk engine which allows us to target our portfolio exposure to the current market risk conditions. When there is a change in the direction of a price trend in a particular timeframe, which can be a positive or negative change versus the prevailing trend, the algorithm triggers a position reversal. In circumstances of excessive market volatility, the algorithm is designed to speedily reduce positions within the portfolio.”
The opening up of the fund to professional clients and institutional investors marks an important new initiative for Helford Capital Partners and their Helford Global I Fund, giving larger investors the opportunity to access a strategy that has so far this year outperformed most of the fund’s peer group.
As part of this new initiative, Helford has developed an investor relations and distribution strategy which will be implemented by a new member of the team, city veteran and marketing specialist Tony Burke.
Founded by a group of asset management professionals in January 2013, Helford Capital Partners is authorised and regulated by the FCA in the UK and registered with the NFA in the US. Helford currently manages the Helford Global I Fund together with other alternative investment funds on its growing AIFM Hosting Platform. The strategy is also available through ‘managed accounts’.
