Elliott Associates and Jane Street Global Trading’s $475 million lawsuit over the controversial cancellation of nickel trades by the London Metal Exchange in March last year, is due to get underway in a court in London today (20 June), reports Reuters.Â
Saudi Arabia’s energy minister Abdulaziz bin Salman may have recently warned oil short sellers to “watch out”, but hedge funds have turned bullish on oil again with wagers against US crude futures and options jumping to the highest in three months, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has charged hedge fund Sabby Management LLC and its managing partner, Hal D Mintz, with fraud in connection with a “long running scheme involving misrepresentations and violations of rules for short selling and order making”.
The prospect of the US economy going into recession later this year, has prompted Citadel boss Ken Griffin, whose firm racked up a record $16 billion return for clients last year, to increase his focus on credit trading, according to a report by Bloomberg.
In an interview in Hong Kong, Griffin reportedly said that his hedge fund is particularly focused on the high-yield credit market, with a mix of long and short strategies. “We’ll look at the credit markets as a source of opportunity,” he said. “Credit should be a meaningful contributor later this year, and next for Citadel.”
