National Bank, JonesTrading listed as Traynor Ridge creditors

The National Bank of Canada and JonesTrading Canada Inc have both been named in a list of creditors of Traynor Ridge Capital Inc by court appointed receiver Ernst & Young, according to a report by Bloomberg, with the value of their claims against the troubled hedge fund yet to be determined.

The Ontario Securities Commission is investigating Traynor Ridge following the sudden death of its founder, Chris Callahan, last month, with the firm having subsequently been issued with a trading ban until 8 February after the regulator said three brokerage firms have potential losses totaling between CAD85m and CAD95m ($62m to $69m) on trades they executed on behalf of the hedge fund.

Echelon Wealth Partners Inc and market maker Virtu Financial Inc have already disclosed that they are holding unsettled trading positions from Traynor Ridge and appear in EY’s list of creditors, alongside JonesTrading and National Bank of Canada.
