Crestbridge has appointed Michael Johnson as Group Head of Fund Services as the firm bolsters its ability to support the needs of a growing global fund client base.
Johnson (pictured) will be responsible for continuing to grow and evolve Crestbridge’s overall funds proposition, supporting managers operating across asset classes, including private equity, real estate, debt and credit funds, and helping them to navigate the regulatory environments in multiple jurisdictions.

Investors redeemed at estimated USD12.11 billion from the global hedge fund industry in September 2019, bringing year to date (YTD) flows to -USD76.86 billion, according to the September 2019 eVestment Hedge Fund Asset Flows Report.
The total Q3 2019 outflows of -USD29.37 billion marked the sixth consecutive quarterly outflow for the industry. Total hedge fund industry AUM stood at USD3.266 trillion at the end of September, according to the new report.

The Irish asset management division of Mediolanum Banking Group, Mediolanum International Funds Ltd (MIFL), has appointed Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, Elizabeth Geoghegan. Geoghegan will be based in the firm’s Dublin office, working closely with Head of Fixed Income, Charles Diebel.
As a Portfolio Manager in MIFL’s Fixed Income team, Geoghegan will be instrumental to the performance of the firm’s in-house strategies, as well as being an active member of MIFL’s strategy team, and working closely with the firm’s multi-manager selection team.

OKEx is the top crypto exchange in terms of derivatives monthly volume, according to a new report from CryptoCompare, a cryptocurrency market data provider.
Although OKEx saw an astonishing derivatives total volume of $90.34B in September, it is still down by 14.9 per cent when compared to August.

Independent institutional currency investment manager, Millennium Global Investments (Millennium Global) ihas opened an office in Paris and appointed Klaus Paesler as a senior Business Development Manager for Europe.
The new Paris office will allow Millennium Global to better serve its existing continental European clientele and will provide a platform for further developments across Europe. In due course, it is expected the business will employ up to twelve individuals in Paris, including macro-economic and quantitative research staff.

HSBC Global Asset Management has appointed John Ware as Senior Product Specialist for hedge funds in its Alternatives team.
Ware will be responsible for HSBC Global Asset Management’s established hedge fund product offering and expanding the platform to a larger institutional investor base globally. Based in London, he will report to Steven Ward, Global Head of Alternative Products, HSBC Global Asset Management.

When assets like stocks are sold, resulting in a gain or loss, brokers are required to report basis and holding period information to the selling shareholder and the IRS via Form 1099-B. The latest challenge for brokers stems from the new IRS Rev Rul 2019-24, which reinforces that cryptocurrency trading is subject to tax reporting. The maximum IRS penalty for improper cost basis reporting is USD3 million per occurrence.
