Activist hedge fund strategies brought in among the strongest returns in the hedge fund industry in April, while overall industry returns are being dragged down by some mediocre performances, according to the eVestment April 2018 Hedge Fund Performance Report. The overall industry returned 0.38 per cent in April, bringing year-to-date (YTD) 2018 returns to a just-barely positive 0.20 per cent. Activist strategies were by far the strongest performers among primary strategies, seeing 2.21 per cent returns in April. Alpima, a specialist front-office platform for institutional and professional investors, has appointed Anastasia Bikou as Managing Director of Sales. In this newly created role, Bikou (pictured), will report to Ilan Heimann, Head of Sales and Partnerships. Bikou joins Alpima from Goldman Sachs in London where she spent nine years and was most recently responsible for FX distribution to institutional clients across Europe. Before that, Bikou worked as a Derivatives Trader for the National Bank of Greece and a Financial Analyst at Merrill Lynch in New York. Bikou holds an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School and Bachelor Degrees in Mechanical Engineering
Global accountancy network PKF has expanded its successful service for family offices and private funds in the UK and Ireland. The PKF Funds and Family Office service, which was launched in New York in 2011, has now extended its presence to London, Edinburgh and Dublin. The expansion gives PKF’s Family Office and Investment Fund clients greater access to expertise across some of the world’s leading financial centres. The size of the unlisted closed-end fund (CEF) market has grown steadily since 2014, ending 2017 at approximately USD48 billion in assets under management, according to the second annual report on the sector from UMB Fund Services (UMB) and FUSE Research Network. Interval funds continue to outpace tender-offer funds from an asset growth perspective. Angelo, Gordon & Co, a USD28 billion alternative investment firm focused on credit and real estate investing, has appointed Steven Paget as a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, European Performing Credit.  In this new role, Paget will lead the build-out of Angelo, Gordon’s European performing credit business with a focus on developing the firm’s European Collateralised Loan Obligation (CLO) platform and investing in the debt and equity tranches of third party CLO managers. New research by State Street Corporation reveals that more than half (60 per cent) of institutional investors surveyed plan to partly or fully outsource their data management over the next three years.
