All six of Market Vectors Index Solutions' (MVIS) investable long/short equity indices recorded positive performance in October. Each index is constructed using transparent, liquid ETFs and US Treasury securities to produce hedge fund-style returns without hedge fund pricing, opaqueness and redemption restrictions.   The Market Vectors Asia (Developed) Long/Short Equity Index led the way with a return of 2.30 per cent followed by the Market Vectors North America Long/Short Equity Index (1/90 per cent), the Market Vectors Global Long/Short Equity Index (1.33 per cent) and the Market Vectors Global Event Long/Short Equity Index (1.11 per cent).   The worst performer

Led by a team of industry veterans, Liquid Strategies will invest in managed futures managers using a combination of non-finance techniques and patented risk management processes. Ted Gutierrez and Mel Meinhardt have been appointed to guide Liquid Strategies as co-chief investment officers.   Gutierrez will be primarily responsible for the investment process. Highland Capital Management has appointed Carla Martin as managing director of national accounts for the independent broker dealer channel for Highland Capital Funds Distributor. Martin will report to Brad Ross, president of Highland Capital Funds Distributor.   Martin, together with Jennifer Ricci, will be responsible for leading Highland's national accounts effort in the independent broker dealer channel. Martin will focus on expanding availability of Highland's alternative products, including its non-traded and mutual fund offerings, to the retail investor through this critical channel.   “Ms Martin's appointment highlights Highland's sustained commitment to building top-tier relationships in the independent broker dealer channel,”
V2 Capital, a Securities and Exchange Commission-registered investment advisor, has launch the V2 Hedged Equity Fund, an open-ended single manager mutual fund using the V2 Hedged Equity Strategy. The fund began trading on 31 October 2014 with assets previously invested in V2’s Hedged Equity Strategy Limited Partnership Structure. International law firm Maples and Calder has appointed Michael Gagie to the role of managing partner of the firm's Singapore office and has promoted associate Jess Stock to of counsel. Gagie will relocate to Singapore when all necessary regulatory approvals are obtained.   Gagie joined Maples and Calder in 2010. Global Derivatives Indices (GDI) has formed a strategic partnership with Tradition, the interdealer broking arm of Compagnie Financière Tradition, to use prices from Trad-X to calculate a new USD version of GDI’s Constant Maturity Index (CMI). This will underpin the GMEX interest rate swap (IRS) Constant Maturity Futures (CMF) contracts.   Under the terms of the partnership agreement, GDI will source firm tradable bids and offers from Trad-X, Tradition’s global trading platform, to calculate a new USD-denominated weighted-average index designed to reflect the USD IRS market in real-time.
