Harneys is opening an office in Singapore on 7 April.
Colin Riegels, head of Harneys’ banking and finance practice group, will relocate from Hong Kong to Singapore as the managing partner of the new office, and he will be joined by Hong Kong funds partner Lisa Pearce.

ABN AMRO Investment Management has launched the first two ABN AMRO Basic UCITS exchange-traded funds reported AssetServicingTimes this week. Both have been listed on Euronext Amsterdam.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has filed settled fraud charges against Alexander HG Mascioli and his alter-ego, purported hedge fund, North Street Capital (NSC).
The charges allege that Mascioli and NSC made a fraudulent May 2012 offer to acquire all outstanding shares of Winnebago Industries' (WGO) common stock.
The Commission alleges that on 9 May 2012, Mascioli authored on NSC letterhead, signed, and sent to WGO an offer to acquire all outstanding common stock of WGO for approximately USD321m in cash.

Traders at UBS tried to rig the Hong Kong Interbank Offered Rate (HIBOR), an investigation has found.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), which investigated nine banks designated as HIBOR reference banks, found evidence of misconduct in the submission of HIBOR rates by only one bank, and no evidence of collusion between these banks to rig the HIBOR fixing.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has charged a former analyst at an affiliate of hedge fund advisory firm SAC Capital Advisors with insider trading.
The SEC alleges that Ronald N Dennis got illegal tips from two friends who were fellow hedge fund analysts. They provided him confidential details about impending announcements at Dell Inc and Foundry Networks.
Armed with inside information, Dennis prompted illegal trades in Dell and Foundry stock and enabled hedge funds managed by SAC Capital and affiliate CR Intrinsic Investors to generate illegal profits and avoid significant losses.

The Simmons & Simmons financial services team in Frankfurt has supported a US alternative investment fund manager (AIFM) with the registration of a Cayman alternative investment fund (AIF).
This is likely to be the first successful registration of a non-EU AIF managed by a non-EU AIFM in Germany with the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin).
The registration covered a Cayman master-feeder hedge fund structure which made the registration process more complex compared to a non-feeder fund. The registration, from the time of the application to the approval by BaFin, took a total of three months.
