London-based consulting and outsourcing firm HedgeStart has questioned the readiness of hedge and private equity fund managers for the proposed changes to the taxation of limited liability partnerships. In May, HMRC issued a consultation document aimed at curbing, as they saw it, the tax reduction schemes used by alternative asset managers. This practice took two forms: disguising what would otherwise be employment relationships through limited liability partnerships; and the manipulation of profit and loss allocations to achieve tax advantages. Bob Devine has joined regulatory incubator Sturgeon Ventures as a portfolio manager.   London-based Sturgeon’s client list includes a number of hedge, venture capital and private equity fund management companies.   Devine has more than 40 years’ experience in fixed income markets. He was previously a fixed interest asset manager and macro-economic strategist with EPIC Asset Management and Ashcourt Rowan Asset Management. Dawn Howe has joined law firm Walkers as a partner in the global investment funds group.   Howe, an offshore investment funds specialist, was previously a partner at Maples and Calder in its Cayman Islands and London offices.   Howe advises upon the structuring, launch and ongoing transactions for both hedge funds and private equity funds and has advised many leading industry names. Dexion Trading Limited’s (DTL) net asset value per share has risen by 3.33 per cent YTD, according to the listed fund of hedge funds’ latest half-yearly report.   Over the last 12 months the company’s discount has improved by 3.33 per cent, while the company’s share price has improved by 13.14 per cent.   “During the six month period to 30 June 2013, the net asset value (NAV) of the company’s shares rose by 3.00 per cent,” says DTL chairman Christopher Spencer. “This increase is significantly better than the benchmark HFRX Macro Index which fell by 1.07 per cent over
