Nina Tannenbaum has joined AllianceBernstein as managing director of alternatives sales and client services.   Tannenbaum will work with AllianceBernstein’s growing alternatives team to further build out its diverse product offerings as well as service the complex needs of clients to integrate alternatives into their current investment portfolios and risk profiles.   Tannenbaum will report to Joel R Stevens II, senior managing director and head of Institutional Investments.   "With so many firms today competing to build a presence in alternatives, our ability to continue to attract top talent demonstrates that our services are resonating with the industry," says Stevens.
Morgan Stanley this week launched a new UCITS fund giving investors exposure to Dalton Investment LLC’s Asia strategy. The MS Dalton Asia Pacific UCITS Fund is the latest UCITS fund to join Morgan Stanley’s FundLogic Alternatives plc umbrella. The fund invests across the Asia Pacific region using an equity long/short strategy. Longchamp Asset Management has been appointed as the sole distributor of the fund. Cairn Capital has structured and placed GBP263.2m in commercial mortgage backed securities (CMBS) notes for Debussy DTC.   The deal is the first CMBS transaction in Europe not arranged by a bank. The notes, issued in exchange for Debussy warehouse notes, securitise a loan made to the Toys “R” Us Properties (UK) Ltd in March 2013 to facilitate the repayment of the Vanwall Finance CMBS notes.    “This benchmark placement was agreed directly between the investors and the borrower, enabling the creation of a bespoke capital markets financing arrangement tailored to suit the specific requirements of the borrower,” says Peter
The second phase of required clearing for certain iTraxx credit default swap (CDS) indices for Category 2 entities has begun, according to a statement issued by the division of clearing and risk of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.     Category 2 entities include commodity pools, private funds, and persons predominantly engaged in activities that are in the business of banking, or in activities that are financial in nature, except for third-party subaccounts.    These entities are required to begin clearing iTraxx CDS indices that are subject to the clearing requirement under section 2(h) of the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA)

Despite sharp losses in June, hedge fund managers are seeing more opportunities in Europe. Following a slow start to 2013, Europe-focused hedge funds represented 16 per cent of funds launched in Q2, compared to 2 per cent in Q1. Overall, 300 hedge funds have launched this year, according to data from Preqin. Hedge funds across the world posted their largest loss for 12 months in June, as continued fears of slow growth in China and the tapering of the Federal Reserve’s bond buying program hit performance. The European Energy Exchange (EEX) continues to migrate its natural gas products onto PEGAS, the common gas trading platform of EEX and Powernext.   Once the migration of the Spot Market products for GASPOOL, NCG and TTF scheduled on 28 August 2013 is complete, the full range of EEX and Powernext products will be tradable on PEGAS.   In addition, a number of location spread contracts will be activated for trading on the Spot Market, comprising of: GASPOOL/NCG, GASPOOL/TTF, NCG/TTF, PEG Nord/TTF and PEG Nord/NCG.   The location spreads between the PEG Sud/PEG Nord areas are already tradable on PEGAS
