Steven O’Hanlon, Head of Fixed Income at ACPI Investment Managers comments on the latest RBI figures… The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is to tighten domestic market liquidity through various measures including capping the amount of liquidity available at the repo rate, and conducting open market operations.   The upshot of this is higher rates across the curve, with the view to attracting flows into the bond market and the banking system. Rising Indian interest rates can potentially attract more money into the Indian bond market, whilst simultaneously increasing the cost of ‘shorting’ the Indian rupee, thereby discouraging speculative selling.

Nearly two out of three (65 per cent) of UK pension fund professionals say they will retain or increase their current exposure to fixed income over the next three years despite uncertainty about the prospects for the asset class, according to research by independent alternative asset managers Aquila Capital. The research shows 34 per cent of pension fund professionals plan to increase moderately their exposure to fixed income and 31 per cent intend to retain it at current levels over the next three years. James Clunie will be appointed manager of the Jupiter Absolute Return Fund with effect from 1 September 2013.   Clunie (pictured), who joined Jupiter on 15 July 2013, will take over the GBP482m fund from Philip Gibbs, who will be retiring from fund management in October 2014.   In his 24 year career in investment management, Clunie has developed a strong reputation for managing absolute return strategies. S&P Capital IQ, a provider of multi-asset class research, data and analytics, has entered into a long-term, strategic agreement with Tullett Prebon Information (TPI), part of Tullett Prebon, one of the world’s largest inter-dealer brokers.   The deal covers broad use rights across all business units and divisions of S&P Capital IQ’s parent company, McGraw Hill Financial (MHFI), including S&P Capital IQ, Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services, S&P Dow Jones Indices and Platts.
