Six members of the 2011 and 2012 classes of 100 Women in Hedge Funds/CAIA Scholars have earned the CAIA Charter, the alternative investment designation.   The scholarship initiative, offered by the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Institute through the sponsorship of Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company (PAAMCO), was established to recognise and reward rising female talent in the alternative investment industry.   This year’s CAIA Charter recipients are Karla Canavan, Bunge SA; Majlinda Kamberi, Larch Lane Advisors; Kathryn Kaminski, Royal Institute of Technology; Nimisha Patel, Segal Rogerscasey; Veronica Wong, Moon Capital Management; and Tenke Zoltani, Islan Asset Management.   "It

Nine Lyxor strategy indices out of 14 ended May in positive territory, led by the Special Situations Index (+3.05 per cent), the Lyxor Long/Short Equity Long Bias Index (+1.66 per cent) and the Lyxor Merger Arbitrage Index (+1.53 per cent). S&P Dow Jones Indices has launched the S&P Emerging Markets Volatility Short-Term Futures Index.    The index, part of the S&P VIX Futures Index Series, measures the return from a daily rolling long position in the first and second month CBOE Emerging Markets ETF Volatility Index (VXEEM) futures contracts.   The S&P Emerging Markets Volatility Short-Term Futures Index rolls continuously throughout each month from the first month VXEEM futures contract into the second month VXEEM futures contract.   A total return version of the S&P Emerging Markets Volatility Short-Term Futures Index is also calculated, which includes interest accrual on the

Hedge funds posted their seventh consecutive monthly gain in May and the 11th gain in the last twelve months as strong performance in Equity Hedge and Event Driven strategies offset weakness in Macro and CTA strategies, according to data released today by HFR, the established global leader in the indexation, research and analysis of the global hedge fund industry. The UCITS Alternative Index Global gained 0.53 per cent in May, putting it at +2.34 per cent for the year. The UCITS Alternative Index Funds of Funds enjoyed a fifth consecutive month of positive returns with a 0.65 per cent performance, up 2.25 per cent for the year. All but two strategies enjoyed gains for May: the UAI Long/Short Equity generated its second-largest gains this year with 1.53 per cent and is the best YTD performer at 4.77 per cent.
