Assets in global hedge funds continued to grow in 2012 on the back of solid average fund performance across the industry last year and new inflows from investors worldwide, according to the latest research from industry information provider HedgeFund Intelligence (HFI).
In the newly-published Spring 2013 issue of its bi-annual Global Review, HedgeFund Intelligence reports that assets in hedge funds of traditional types – which are mostly domiciled offshore or structured as limited partnerships in the US – reached USD2.208trn (including parallel onshore versions) at the end of 2012.

Israel A Englander’s Managed Accounts and Prime Services (MA&PS) division, a new platform providing customised solutions to small to mid-sized hedge funds, has appointed Wall Street veteran Brett Langbert as managing director for the firm, where he will be responsible for directing sales and distribution.

The Dow Jones Credit Suisse Hedge Fund Index finished up 1.21 per cent for the month of March, with nine of the 10 sub-strategies in positive territory.
Event driven (2.11 per cent), managed futures (1.74 per cent) and long/short equity (1.38 per cent) led the way while dedicated short bias was the only sub-strategy to record a negative return, finishing the month at -1.91 per cent.

Integrated Financial Arrangements, the company that operates the Transact wrap service, has selected Calastone as the provider of its electronic, interoperable re-registration solution.
Transact, along with a number of other organisations, took part in the original working group to develop the Calastone re-registration service, and has now chosen the solution to automate its own re-registration process.
Under FSA regulations it is compulsory for platforms to offer re-registration of assets. Whilst these regulations do not stipulate that this process must be automated, it is widely acknowledged that an electronic straight through processing (STP) solution is preferable. Clive Snowdon has been appointed group managing director of the Moore Group.
This new role is the first senior position to be announced since the fund business was acquired by First Names Group in January.
Snowdon’s (pictured) experience and knowledge ideally place him for the new role at Moore. He has over 15 years’ senior international business and operational experience in alternative assets covering hedge funds, funds of hedge funds and private equity funds. Snowdon will replace Ian Moore as managing director, whilst Moore takes up his new position as executive chairman of the Moore Group.
