Chi-X Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary of alternative trading venue operator Chi-X Global, has appointed Jamie Crank as head of market operations. Crank joins from the London Stock Exchange where he was most recently head of commercial management, equity and derivatives markets. Deer Park Road’s flagship fund, STS Partners Fund, has closed to new investors. The fund, which focuses on deeply discounted, short-duration, high cash-flow mortgage-backed (MBS) and other asset-backed (ABS) securities, was started in May 2008 with USD17m of internal capital and has since grown to more than USD600m. Deer Park plans to roll-out a new fund early in the second quarter of 2013 that uses the same strategy and process employed in STS Partners Fund, but with securities that, for the most part, will be slightly higher in the capital structure and with slightly lower return expectations. What many investors currently perceive as safe haven assets could turn out to be the snake lurking in the grass next year, says Johanna Kyrklund (pictured), Schroders’ Head of Multi-Asset Investments… Against a backdrop of on-going fears of downside risk, political uncertainty and lacklustre economic statistics, higher risk assets such as equities and high yield debt have quietly delivered strong returns in 2012. Six alternative funds are being offered the chance to pitch to more than 200 institutional investors, funds of funds and high net worth individuals at the second Amsterdam Investors Forum (AIF), organised by ABN AMRO Clearing on 13 February 2013. Wells Fargo Securities is rebranding Merlin Securities as Wells Fargo Prime Services. Dyal Capital Partners, a private equity fund managed by Neuberger Berman Group, has received USD1.28bn in client commitments to make minority investments in the management companies of established hedge fund firms.  The fundraising effort exceeded Dyal’s goal of USD1bn. Investors included sovereign wealth funds, public and private pensions, multi-employer pensions, insurance companies, endowments and foundations, family offices and private banks. Dyal’s strategy is to purchase minority equity interests in a portfolio of approximately 12 to 15 institutional hedge fund management companies, diversified by strategy and geography.  These relationships will be structured for the long term, as Dyal has raised a
NYSE Liffe, the European derivatives business of NYSE Euronext, has expanded Bclear, the exchange’s trade confirmation, administration and clearing service, to include fixed income products. The new contracts available through Bclear will be Three Month Euro (Euribor) Futures, Three Month Sterling (Short Sterling) Futures and Long Gilt Futures. Insparo Asset Management has appointed Glenda Levin as head of marketing in a move to broaden the firm’s investor base. Levin will primarily be responsible for expanding Insparo’s existing investor base in the UK and Europe.
