Fortune SG Fund Management and Lyxor Asset Management’s joint-venture in China, and Winton Capital Asia, the Hong Kong subsidiary of the world’s largest CTA fund, have launched the first CTA in China. This mandate mainly targets sophisticated investors including institutions and high net worth individuals. Hedge funds, as measured by the Dow Jones Credit Suisse Hedge Fund Index, finished August up 0.84%, with eight out of 10 strategies in positive territory. In total, the industry saw estimated inflows of approximately USD2 billion in August, bringing overall assets under management for the industry to approximately USD1.76 trillion.
  The Fixed Income Arbitrage and Multi-Strategy sectors experienced the largest asset inflows on a percentage basis, with inflows in August of 1.05% and 0.68% from July 2012 levels, respectively.

Mourant Ozannes has opened an office in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) in response to demand from clients and intermediaries for BVI legal services. The new BVI office opens with three partners and will focus initially on corporate, international finance, investment funds, investment business regulation, insolvency and litigation services.

 Michael Williams, who specialises in corporate, banking and finance work and is described by clients in the Legal 500 directory as "extremely thorough and very responsive”, is relocating to the BVI to oversee the establishment of the office as Managing Partner.

The Alternative Investment Management Association has appointed a new non-executive chairman, Kathleen Casey, the former Securities and Exchange Commissioner and SEC representative to the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB).
