OVS Capital, the European equity focused event driven investment manager, has added two new members to its business team.   Robert Moore joins OVS to manage treasury and finance. Moore previously spent over 14 years at GLG Partners as a manager on the equity finance team where his responsibilities included evaluating counterparty risk, reducing financing costs, foreign exchange execution and stock loan. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission has filed a notice of intent to revoke the registrations of Gordon A Driver and Axcess Fund Management. Driver, a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, is registered with the CFTC as an associated person and is the sole principal of Axcess Fund, which is a registered commodity pool operator. The CFTC’s notice alleges that Driver and Axcess Fund are subject to statutory disqualification from CFTC registration based on the 5 July 2012 summary judgment order and the 12 July 2012 final judgment and permanent injunction order entered by the US District Court for the

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s division of market oversight has issued a letter advising the Bolsa de Valores, Mercadorias e Futuros (BVMF-Brazil) that its S&P 500 Index futures contract submitted for review on 9 August 2012 has been deemed certified. The contract satisfies the requirements of the Commodity Exchange Act and the Commission’s regulations and may be offered or sold to persons in the US through the BVMF’s direct access terminals located in the US.
Palmer Square Capital Management, an investment management firm that provides portfolios of hedge fund strategies, has appointed Emily Colella as a managing director responsible for business development. Colella’s primary focus will be on expanding Palmer Square’s presence within the institutional channel. She will also play a key role in guiding the firm’s product development plan. Colella draws upon her past experience in similar roles, including institutional client service and business development positions at SSI Investment Management, Artisan Partners and Wilshire Associates. GSO/Blackstone, part of the credit platform of Blackstone, has priced the initial public offering of Blackstone/GSO Strategic Credit Fund. The fund’s primary investment objective is to seek high current income, with a secondary objective to seek preservation of capital, consistent with its primary goal of high current income. The fund began trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) today under the symbol BGB. The fund raised USD834.8m in its common share offering, or USD960m assuming the full exercise of the underwriters’ overallotment option, which may or may not occur. Liontrust Asset Management, the specialist independent fund management group, saw net positive inflows of GBP88m in the current quarter, compared with inflows of GBP46m for the three months ending 30 September 2011. Net positive inflows in the financial year to 24 September 2012 total GBP181m (six months ending 30 September 2011: GBP59m). During the same period, assets under management increased to GBP2,364m as at close of business on 24 September 2012 from GBP1,529m on 31 March 2012. NexPoint Credit Strategies Fund has appointed James Dondero as portfolio manager. Dondero has over 25 years of experience in the credit markets. In addition to his role at NexPoint, Dondero is the president of Highland Capital Management, which he co-founded in 1993. Prior to founding Highland, Dondero served as chief investment officer of Protective Life’s GIC subsidiary and helped grow the business from concept to over USD2bn between 1989 and 1993. His portfolio management experience includes mortgage-backed securities, investment grade corporates, leveraged bank loans, high-yield bonds, emerging market debt, derivatives, and equity securities.
Asset management firm Attalus Capita has appointed Joshua Silva as senior portfolio strategist. In this newly created role, Silva will work with Attalus’ trading and risk management teams to enhance the cost and benefit characteristics of Attalus’ risk calibration and benchmark replication for use with traditional and alternative investment strategies.   Silva will also work with Attalus’ clients to evaluate and construct customised solutions for their unique portfolio challenges.
