Ignis Asset Management has appointed Mark Lovett as chief investment officer – equities. Lovett will join Ignis on 4 October and will be responsible for overseeing more than GBP10bn of institutional and retail equity assets across Ignis’ proprietary fund range. Most recently Lovett was chief investment officer UK and European equities in London for Allianz RCM. He was also chairman of the Allianz RCM asset allocation committee in London and a board member of the London executive committee. Lovett was also a member of Allianz RCM’s seven-strong European management group responsible for the management of all aspects of the investment
The Blackstone Group and Patria, a Brazilian alternative asset manager, have formed a partnership in which Blackstone would purchase a 40 per cent stake in Patria and the two firms would agree to cooperate in building their businesses in Brazil and throughout South America. Apex Fund Services is expanding its North American fund administration services and client base with the opening of its Canada office in Toronto. Apex Fund Services (Canada) will be managed and run by Alex Chapman. He was formerly vice president and part-owner of Commonwealth Fund Services, the successor to Mintz Fund Services that he created and managed. Prior to this Chapman worked in Monaco managing a small offshore fund administration company. Fund manager Threadneedle has launched the Threadneedle (Lux) Absolute Emerging Market Macro Fund. The fund is for investors who want to tap into opportunities in emerging market debt and currencies, whilst benefiting from the increased flexibility of a Ucits III structure.   The lead manager on the fund will be Richard House, head of emerging market debt at Threadneedle. The traditional summer slowdown in August failed to materialise on the secondary hedge fund market, as Hedgebay registered its highest volume of trading for the year.
