The Greenwich Composite Investable Hedge Fund Index advanced by 1.5 per cent in March as a result of strong global credit and equity markets.   All Greenwich investable indices moved higher during the month and all are currently positive for the year.    The Investable Futures Index was the largest gainer during the month, with a gain of 3.03 per cent.  Arbitrage and other market neutral strategies also continue to perform well, posting a gain of more than two per cent for the quarter.  Year-to-date, the event-driven and long-short credit investable indices have been the best performers with gains of 5.61 per
The hedge fund industry as measured by the Credit Suisse/Tremont Hedge Fund Index continued its positive performance into 2010, returning 3.1 per cent in the first quarter and outperforming equity and bond indices on a risk-adjusted basis. Citigroup has named Patrick Curtin North American head of investor client sales management.  Curtin will be responsible for sales across the entire investor services suite in North America to traditional and alternative investors and investment managers. Wiener Börse has converted its trading system for the derivatives market from US-based Nasdaq-OMX’s OM-Click to the Eurex system. The Eurex trading and clearing platform is used by more than 410 customers in 25 countries on four continents. In converting to the Eurex system, Wiener Börse expects to see increased liquidity on its derivatives market. The majority of Wiener Börse’s cash market participants already use the Eurex infrastructure to trade derivatives on other marketplaces. LGT Capital Partners, an alternative assets and fund of funds manager, is launching its Crown Managed Futures Ucits Fund to offer a broader range of investors access to its flagship managed futures strategy. Sixty one per cent of hedge funds in RBC Dexia Investor Services’ latest survey believe greater governance of alternative investments could result in an increased allocation to the sector, with a significant number of alternative fund launches, both on and offshore, expected in the coming months. SolarField Investment Management has been formed to provide investors with access to the attractive long-term yields available on investment in government incentivised electricity generating solar photovoltaic installations across the EU.  Based in London, SolarField is preparing to launch a series of investment funds which will invest in a pipeline of identified electricity generating installations in Italy, Germany and Spain.  The funds will invest in both existing operational installations and development opportunities.
