Law firm Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft has appointed Drew G. L. Chapman, an alternative investment, asset management and securities industry attorney, as partner in the corporate department.
Chapman will reside in the New York office.

Thesis Fund Management, a New York-based registered investment adviser, has launched The Flexible Fund which combines hedge fund and mutual fund characteristics.
The fund is available on the majority of mutual fund platforms including Fidelity and Charles Schwab.
The fund combines the multi-strategy investment approach typically found in hedge funds with the daily pricing, daily liquidity and transparency of a mutual fund.
It is managed by the team at Thesis Fund Management which was founded specifically to bring alternative strategies to mutual funds and the investing public.

Gain Capital, a provider of online trading services, has launched an Arabic service under its Forex.com UK division.
The new service will offer Forex.com’s trading platform and services to clients across the Middle East region.
The Forex.com offering supports margin-based trading in FX and contracts for difference, and is regulated by the Financial Services Authority through Forex.com UK.
Investors in the region will be able to trade in oil, gold, silver and the world’s major currencies including the US dollar, Euro and British Pound, 24 hours a day, five days a week.

Pardus Capital Management, a New York-based alternative investment manager, had recruited Lutz Stoeber as a senior analyst to evaluate distressed investments in Western Europe, focusing on Germany.
Stoeber has financial analysis, private equity and leveraged buyout experience, with particular expertise in chemicals, basic manufacturing and shipping.
He will leverage Pardus’ existing relationships in the European restructuring community.

The Tokyo branch of MF Global FXA Securities has gone live with Fidessa’s Japanese trading platform for its newly established Japanese equities business.
MF Global FXA Securities (Japan), a wholly owned subsidiary of MF Global group, had previously been very active in margin FX trading in Japan and has now expanded into a research driven equity brokerage business, with plans to expand further into the full range of OTC and listed derivatives services including CFDs.
Fidessa’s trading platform enables MF Global FXA Securities to offer automated electronic equity trading on the Japanese market.

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission has approved the applications of Cantor Futures Exchange for designation as a contract market and Cantor Clearinghouse to be registered as a derivatives clearing organisation.
The Commodity Exchange Act requires the CFTC to approve such applications if the applicant meets criteria enumerated in the Act.
Cantor also has requested approval from the CFTC of a contract related to domestic motion picture box office receipts. The commission is still considering that contract.

Stock market investors expressed positive views in March as the S&P 500 index registered a 6.03 per cent gain in a context of decreasing implied volatility (17.59 per cent), which reached its lowest level since June 2007.
According to the report by Edhec Risk, the commodities market confirmed February’s good results and managed a substantial return of 2.45 per cent.
On the fixed income market, performance was mixed as convertible bonds also managed a remarkable gain of 3.27 per cent while regular bonds failed to reach positive territory and fell 0.43 per cent.

Managed futures experienced the best performance among the Credit Suisse/Tremont Hedge Fund Index strategies in March, with gains of 4.25 per cent largely due to trend followers who were able to generate profits across many sectors including equities, commodities and currencies.
All strategies except dedicated short bias were positive for the month, with five strategies registering gains over the 2.0 per cent mark.
