Centurion Fund Managers has obtained regulatory approval from the CSSF in Luxembourg for its fourth open-ended longevity fund, the first in the market to combine macro and micro longevity.    The professional investor fund, which is called the Centurion Longevity Fund, targets an annual return of six to nine per cent with low volatility and minimal correlation to the stock markets.   Centurion says investing in both macro and micro longevity products provides investors with more diversification and lower volatility and risk when compared to the more traditional micro longevity funds. Characterised by election fever, 2010 will see changes to the flow of funds, an increase in the use of Ucits wrappers by hedge funds and an opportunity for growth with defined contribution pensions, according to Tom Brown, European head of investment management at KPMG. Brown says there is a risk of some substantial falls in asset prices in some markets this year. Since the trough of March 2009, there have been huge price rises, often 50 per cent or more. As the government takes its foot off the gas in terms of support, Brown says prices may take a tumble.

Edhec-Risk Institute has launched a risk and investment management programme after a survey found that further education was needed to close the gap between real-word practice and research. The Executive MSc in Risk and Investment Management will provide experienced practitioners with a 17-month part-time programme. The international derivatives exchange Eurex will launch equity options based on 30 of the most liquid British stocks on 18 January 2010. With this new product suite, Europe’s largest derivatives exchange will for the first time offer British pence denominated equity options with home market settlement. The new UK equity options will be physically settled in the Crest system of Euroclear UK & Ireland. Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank, has listed the iPath Dow Jones-UBS Commodity Index Total Return exchange-traded note on the Singapore Exchange. The RBC Hedge 250 Index had a net return of 1.02 per cent in November, bringing the year-to-date return of the index to 18.48 per cent. These returns are estimated and will be finalised by the middle of next month. The return for October 2009 has been finalised at -0.18 per cent.
