Digital asset investment products saw outflows totalling USD142 million last week, the first outflow following a 17 week run of inflows, according to the latest CoinShares Digital Asset Fund Flows Weekly report. The outflows represent only 0.23 per cent of total assets under management (AuM), and from an historical perspective are small relative to the outflows in early 2018 where weekly outflows represented up to 1.6 per cent of AuM. Other altcoins softened the blow with polana, Polkadot and multi-asset investment products seeing inflows totalling USD6.7 million, USD2.5 million and USD1.5 million respectively.
Altana Wealth’s carbon futures-focused strategy, which trades opportunities stemming from rising carbon credit costs in the European Union, has scored a near-60 per cent return since launching earlier this year. The gross return of the SS&C GlobeOp Hedge Fund Performance Index for November 2021 measured -1.71 per cent. An increasing emphasis on gaining alpha from hedge funds is expected to boost the demand for alternative data, according to a new ReaesrchAndMarkets report.  The global alternative data market is expected to reach USD69.36 billion by 2028 and expand at a CAGR of 58.5 per cent from 2021 to 2028, as asset managers at hedge funds, mutual funds, private equity funds, pension funds, unit trusts, life insurance companies, and other BFSI entities, increasingly use alternative data to derive predictive insights. Hedge fund Anchorage Capital, a major player in distressed debt investing, is closing its USD7.4 billion flagship fund, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. Anchorage, which has around USD30 billion in assets, hasn’t specified a date for the return of investor cash. The firm will now focus on its structured credit and private equity-style funds.
