Oyster BM Alternativos – an alternative UCITS fund of funds launched a year ago by SYZ Capital with Spain’s Banca March, and led by hedge fund industry veteran Cédric Vuignier – has weathered 2020’s turbulence to grow its assets to EUR100 million (USD118.1 million), making gains in Japanese and convertible arbitrage-focused positions.
The fund has generated a 3.9 per cent return since its October 2019 launch, and is up 2.5 per cent year-to-date, ahead of its peer group, with roughly half of its EUR100 million inflows received this year.

US long/short equity hedge funds are said to be “cautiously” positioning their portfolios on a Joe Biden victory in next week’s US presidential election.
Lyxor Asset Management strategists say that a Democrat win on 3rd November looks increasingly likely. But prospects of a sweeping ‘Blue Wave’ victory – which would strengthen “ambitious” plans on stimulus, taxes, and wages – is less clear-cut, hinging on a Democrat majority in Congress.

London-based oil-focused hedge fund Westbeck Capital’s flagship energy strategy suffered its biggest loss this year in last month’s violent market sell-off, shedding 15.2 per cent as its long oil equity positions were sent into a tailspin.
Though September’s loss was the strategy’s third monthly slide in a row, the Westbeck Energy Opportunity Fund remains up 41.7 per cent year-to-date.
The fund, which is managed by Westbeck co-founders Will Smith, CEO, and Jean-Louis Le Mee, CIO, remains upbeat on the commodity, pointing to a “constructive story” in fundamentals and data.
“As the fund hit its -15 per cent drawdown limit towards
