Elian has strengthened its recently launched commercial team with two senior appointments.
Lisa Mclauchlan has been appointed business development and marketing director, and Mari Hietala-David (pictured, with Mclauchlan) has been appointed to oversee marketing and business development for private equity and real estate funds.
Both positions are in Elian’s commercial team, which is responsible for the continual development of new products, and driving business growth and market share, whilst maintaining high levels of client service across the globe.
As part of the newly created role, Mclauchlan will oversee all marketing and business development activity across Elian’s service lines
The Pittsburgh office of global law firm K&L Gates has appointed Brian Vargo and Michelle Repp as partners in the firm’s investment management, hedge funds and alternative investments and corporate/M&A practices, respectively.
Vargo joins the firm from Dechert LLP, while Repp returns to K&L Gates from II-VI Incorporated, where she served as Corporate Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs.
Vargo advises investment management firms and private and registered funds on matters relating to organisation, governance, and operations, including compliance with securities and commodities laws and regulations. Global law firm K&L Gates has continued to bolster its investment management, hedge funds and alternative investment practice with the addition of Derek Steingarten (pictured) as a partner in the firm’s New York office.
Steingarten, who joins K&L Gates from Goodwin Procter LLP, is the office’s third new partner in the investment management area in the last six months.

Alternative Investment Management, (AIM), a privately-owned investment management firm has appointed Ryan Quinn as managing director, focusing on portfolio management and researching hedge fund and private equity managers and investments.

Elian has strengthened its fund services team in Guernsey with two new appointments and a senior promotion.
Kees Jager has joined Elian as an associate director and will lead the local Fund Services team. Working closely with Jager, Leasa Callaway has been promoted to manager and Sally Ann Brehaut has joined the firm as an assistant manager – compliance.

Martin Currie has now received the necessary approvals to complete the purchase of the business assets and investment management team of PK Investment Management, the London based long/short Japan Equity boutique.
Led by Paul Kirkby, the team now includes Martin Currie incumbent manager, Claire Marwick. Overall assets under management for the enlarged team are USD425 million.
Kirkby has also been appointed as lead manager of the Legg Mason Japan Absolute Alpha Fund the Luxembourg domiciled UCITS fund.

Todd W Betke has joined K&L Gates from Pepper Hamilton as a partner in the firm’s Washington DC office.

The Boards of the Neuberger Berman funds, including the closed-end funds, have appointed Admiral James G Stavridis and Deborah C McLean as board members.
Admiral Stavridis is the Dean of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University. He is a retired Admiral of the United States Navy and the former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO.
