Hedge fund Point72 is continuing to add Goldman Sachs talent to its technology leadership bench, continuing a hiring streak that shows no signs of slowing under Chief Technology Officer Ilya Gaysinskiy, himself a former Goldman Sachs ‘Tech Fellow’, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
In 2025 alone, three former Goldman Tech Fellows have joined the multi-strategy hedge fund. The most recent additions include Yan Liu and Mayer Salzer, who arrived in July, following the earlier appointment of Rahul Garde in February.
Liu has been appointed Head of Database and Messaging Technology at Point72, based in New York. A Goldman veteran of 26 years, Liu rose to Tech Fellow and Co-Head of Database Engineering before leaving the firm in 2021. He most recently served as Managing Director and Global Head of CTI Data Services at Citi.
Salzer joins as Head of Back-Office Platform Engineering, also in New York. He spent nearly two decades at Goldman Sachs, where he was responsible for key infrastructure initiatives before making the move directly to Point72.
The hedge fund’s hiring spree has largely tracked the arrival of Gaysinskiy, who joined as CTO in 2022 after a lengthy tenure at Goldman Sachs. His own status as a former Tech Fellow appears to be a magnet for similarly credentialed engineers, known for their technical excellence and often viewed as more meritocratically elevated than typical banking hierarchies.
