Miki Sugimoto and Matthew Hannay have joined London-based hedge fund and long-only manager RWC Partners’ Global Horizon team, which is led by Louise Keeling.

Sugimoto brings over 10 years’ experience on the buy-side from Veritas, where she was an assistant fund manager to the Real Return Asia Fund, and Newton Investment Management where she was Director of Japanese Equity. She holds a BScEng in Computer Science from Imperial College London.

Hannay joins from Baillie Gifford where he worked for three years and spent time on the Global Income, Developed Asia Equities and North American Equities desks as part of the graduate scheme. Hannay graduated from St Andrews University with a degree in Modern History.
The RWC Global Horizon equity strategy was launched in November 2013. It focuses on generating multi-year outperformance (as measured by a rolling 5-year performance) and is currently up 10.43 per cent since inception versus the benchmark (MSCI All Country World), which is up 7.22 per cent over the same period. The strategy seeks to benefit from the time arbitrage that exists in a world obsessed with short-term trends by being a long-term investor and acting as an owner rather than renter of investee companies. The team holds a portfolio of companies which it believes are trading at a significant discount to their intrinsic value. These investment opportunities are identified by focusing on the supply side of industries and management’s alignment with shareholders. It is the team’s belief that well-aligned management is likely to be a better allocator of capital over time.
Louise Keeling, portfolio manager of RWC’s Global Horizon strategy, says: “I am pleased to have Matt and Miki join the team. Our long-term, unconstrained approach to global equity investing requires free-thinking, bottom-up analysis which both Matt and Miki embrace and are well-practiced in. I am confident that their diverse experience will help us to uncover exceptional investment opportunities wherever they are in the world.”
Dan Mannix, CEO of RWC, says: “With a fund structure which puts such heavy weight on multi-year relative performance, there is a strong incentive for Louise and her team to focus on investment opportunities which are deeply out of favour, misanalysed or under-researched. Both Miki and Matt provide valuable depth and experience as Louise’s strategy grows.”
