Alternative fund managers and allocators looking to connect with their peers in the Benelux region should put the following date in their diary: Wednesday 17 February 2016.
This will be the 5th Amsterdam Investor Forum hosted by ABN AMRO Clearing at the bank’s Amsterdam headquarters. A full-day event, it is currently the only forum for the alternative funds industry in the Netherlands The event is being targeted at all those active in the alternative investment industry: hedge fund managers, traditional asset managers, institutional investors, family offices and private bank and wealth advisors.
“For one day we open our doors to our Hedge Fund community not just within our prime brokerage division but across the ABN AMRO banking group, providing a unique opportunity to introduce themselves to a range of investors,” says Delphine Amzallag, European Head of Relationship Management, ABN AMRO Clearing Bank in London.
“We expect to have a lot of regional representation at the Amsterdam Investor Forum, with respect to hedge funds, pension funds, family offices, fund-of-funds and other allocators to alternatives. It is a great forum for them to discover new managers and investment opportunities.”
The forum takes place in February to reflect on the market landscape in 2015 and, more importantly, to look ahead at what some of the key opportunities and challenges might be as 2016 unfolds. As such, a number of high-level panel discussions will take place throughout the day, which is scheduled to run from 9am to 6pm.
“We will be covering macro outlooks, regulation, the investor landscape and ESG in addition to running several breakout sessions where we will dig deeper into strategy-specific topics and provide insights into the year ahead for the likes of equities, credit, CTAs, volatility and macro funds,” says Amzallag.
One important feature of the 5th Amsterdam Investor Forum will be a panel discussion hosted by the organisation, 100 Women in Hedge Funds, which now has over 15,000 active members. The panel will offer unique insights from a selection of leading women on their journey to the top of the industry, as well as current market insights.
“There has been an increased call for diversity in the financial sector we cannot ignore. By having this panel we hope to address this issue, open up perspectives and positively inspire the audience,” says Amzallag.
Fund managers who want to raise their profile will also have the opportunity to take part in the “AIF Factor”.
A bit of fun and light-hearted entertainment – though with a potentially lucrative outcome – the AIF Factor will feature the top five fund managers from those who choose to nominate themselves and provide a brief overview of why they think theirs will be the AIF Factor fund of the year.
Each of the five finalists will be invited to pitch to the audience prior to lunch, who will then vote for the winner.
So to all those managers still in active asset raising mode: get your applications in between now and February and polish your skills of persuasion. No hypnotism allowed though!
For emerging managers, there will also be an aperitif ahead of the main event on the 17th February. Also taking place at ABN AMRO’s headquarters, this pre-event will feature representatives from Murano Systems and Laven Partners, among others.
“They will present on setting up a fund, fund regulations, ways to access investor assets, and what managers need to think about in terms of presenting to investors; the importance of marketing over and above fund performance and so on. We are sending invites to emerging managers that we currently work with or are hoping to work with,” confirms Amzallag.
