A number of regulatory developments have been introduced into the Cayman Islands over the last 12 months as it takes further steps to ensure the transparency and integrity of its financial funds industry stands up to global scrutiny.
Many of these regulatory changes do not necessarily impact fund managers directly, but more so their service providers, although the Data Protection Law, 2017, which was published in the Cayman Islands Gazette on June 2017, will impact all Cayman entities in respect of how they process and protect personal data.

3iQ Corp has agreed to terms and conditions with the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) to act as Canada’s first Portfolio Manager (PM) and Investment Fund Manager (IFM) permitted to invest in multiple crypto assets.
Units of 3iQ’s Global Cryptoasset Fund will be available to accredited investors, advisors and dealers via Fundserv, and to pension funds, institutions and family offices via private placement. GLMX, a comprehensive technology solution for the trading of repurchase agreements (repo) and secured lending, has raised USD20 million in growth equity financing.
The investment will help the firm expand its operations into major European markets and bolster its engineering team following a record year in which its client base doubled, and weekly trading volumes exceeded USD68 billion.

The Alternative Credit Council (ACC), the private credit affiliate of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), has stepped up its activities in Asia-Pacific for members operating private credit strategies in the region.
As part of the expanded activity, a new APAC Committee of the ACC has been formed, co-chaired by global ACC Board members Justin Ferrier of BlackRock and Barry Lau of Adamas Asset Management.
The ACC is already active in the US and European markets, and the formation of the APAC group will consolidate the association’s position as the voice of the global private credit sector.
