Point72 Asset Management, the $37bn multi-strategy hedge fund firm founded by Steve Cohen, has seen the departure of two senior macro portfolio managers – Yau Ng in Singapore and Alex Blanchard in Dubai – according to a report by Bloomberg.
The report cites unnamed people familiar with the matter as confirm ing that Ng, also known as Yau Chung Ng, has retired after more than six years with the firm. Based in Singapore, Ng was one of the most prominent macro portfolio managers in the Asia-Pacific region, focusing primarily on Asian currencies and interest rates.
His exit comes as a surprise to many in the industry, given his relatively early retirement and strong pedigree. Ng previously held macro trading roles at Balyasny Asset Management in London and earlier managed non-Japan Asia FX at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs. A Yale graduate, Ng was seen as one of the region’s few portfolio managers entrusted with significant capital in a notoriously thin talent pool.
Separately, Alex Blanchard, a macro PM based in Dubai, has also left Point72, according to a person with knowledge of the move. Blanchard joined the firm in 2020 after heading repo trading at Goldman Sachs, where he was once considered a contender for partner due to his expertise in short-term interest rates and repo markets.
The firm declined to comment on either departure. Ng and Blanchard did not respond to requests for comment.
