Viking Global’s Head of Credit exits after three years

Patrick Dowd, Head of Credit at Viking Global Investors, a US-based hedge fund firm focused on early and late stage venture investments, has left the company after three years, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The reports cites a letter seen by Bloomberg as confirming Dowd’s departure, which reportedly comes after Viking combined its private equity and structured capital teams. Dowd oversaw credit investments at Viking and also led the firm’s structured capital fund.

Prior to joining Viking in 2021, Dowd spent over 12 years at New York-based alternative asset manager King Street Capital Management, joining the firm as a Research Analyst in 2008 before being made a Managing Director in 2018.

In the letter, Viking wrote: “We have been exploring with Pat a public-credit-focused role, but were unable to align on one that was both compelling to him and consistent with Viking’s objectives.”
