Xenfin Capital hires fixed income specialist

Xenfin Capital, the systematic trading firm, has hired Luca Rubinelli to head its new fixed income trading arm as well as managing a global macro strategy.

Rubinelli brings experience in a broad range of fixed income products to Xenfin Capital.

He joins from a family office, where he was a multi-asset portfolio manager on the proprietary trading desk investing and trading in fixed income credit, equities and derivatives.

Prior to that role, he was a director with Société Générale in the derivatives solutions group and has also held senior roles in the fixed income division of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, along with roles at Paribas and JP Morgan.

The Global Macro Absolute Return Trading strategy that Rubinelli will be running is a semi-systematic approach that filters daily and intraday signals on the most liquid exchange-traded funds and aims to generate a performance regardless of the market direction and volatility. A discretionary layer is given to the manager, after analysing the macro data, but the strategy will not be allowed to trade on macro economic data on its own. By using the most common ETFs with a very large market capitalisation and liquidity, the strategy does not use the traditional leverage and therefore aims for low volatility.

Duncan MacInnes, chief executive and head of trading at Xenfin Capital, says: “Bringing Luca onboard at Xenfin expands our capabilities as a firm. We have had success with our systematic model, but having Luca who has a combined systematic and discretionary trading background will enable us to ensure that our trading strategies are running at their absolute best.  Xenfin is looking to grow with a combination of Luca’s skillset and our solid infrastructure and risk management systems. This is a part of an overall, longer term strategy to build on our success and expand into other aspects of financial services such as our market making operations which are already operational in the Spot FX market.”
