Citadel Securities generated a record $7.3bn in trading revenue during the second quarter as heightened market volatility created a lucrative environment for the world’s largest electronic market makers, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The report cites an unnamed person familiar with the results as saying that the Miami-based firm’s quarterly trading revenue more than tripled from a year earlier, while net income jumped more than 250% to $3.3bn.
Citadel Securities, founded by Ken Griffin, reportedly declined to comment.
The performance highlights the exceptional trading conditions enjoyed by major quantitative market-making firms during the second quarter. Citadel Securities competes with firms including Jane Street Group, Hudson River Trading and Susquehanna International Group, several of which have also reported unusually strong results this year.
Hudson River Trading generated $11.4bn of trading revenue in the second quarter, more than four times its haul from the same period a year earlier. Jane Street had generated more than $40bn in net trading revenue by mid-August, despite suffering an estimated $15bn loss in July. That figure had already surpassed the firm’s full-year 2025 revenue of $39.6bn.
