Akin adds hedge fund partner in New York

Akin has added to its investment management practice in the firm’s New York office with the appointment of Max Carpal as a Partner. Karpel was previously chair of Lowenstein Sandler’s emerging managers practice and co-chair of its family office practice.

With 20 years of experience advising both emerging and established hedge fund managers on the formation and structuring of funds and the full range of private investment vehicles, Karpel’s practice extends across asset classes and internationally.

Having previously served as a COO and in-house counsel at a family office, Karpel also advises prominent family offices on a wide range of matters – ranging from reviewing their investments in private funds to structuring philanthropic initiatives and negotiating major charitable gifts. A significant part of his practice involves negotiating seed deals and side letters.

In addition, Karpel has an extensive track record of advising Israeli private funds and is a co-founder of Israel’s industry association for hedge fund managers.
