Balyasny Asset Management has hired Daniel Chen, a former co-head of BlackRock’s US investment-grade platform, as a portfolio manager in New York, adding senior credit expertise to its multi-strategy investment operation, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Chen spent 26 years at BlackRock, joining the firm in 1999 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He remained with the asset manager while completing an MBA at NYU Stern and rose through its fixed-income business, becoming a senior figure in its corporate bond platform.
In 2023, Chen took on a leading role overseeing BlackRock’s global corporate bond fund. He left the firm in January 2026 and has now joined Balyasny, according to his professional profile. Balyasny did not comment on the appointment.
The move adds further experienced fixed-income talent to Balyasny’s investment platform, whose fixed-income operation is led by Steve Goldberg and Nilson Kocher, both of whom have backgrounds in macro investing.
