BlueMountain Capital Management (BlueMountain), a private, diversified alternative asset management firm, has appointed Nitin Dewan as Portfolio Manager, Primary Strategies in the firm’s equities team.

In the newly-created position, Dewan (pictured), will report to Lance Rosen, who joined BlueMountain as Head of Equities last year.
Dewan will be responsible for identifying both core and tactical long-short opportunities presented by the systematic mis-pricing of equities around capital market events such as IPOs and Follow-ons.
“The growth of our discretionary equities strategy further advances our plans to enhance our historic strengths, to adapt quickly to changing markets and to build new investment capabilities,” says Stephen Siderow, Co-Founder and Co-President of BlueMountain. “Nitin will lead an innovative new sub-strategy within discretionary equities, complementing our current team and contributing to our collaborative multi-strategy investment approach.”
“We’re excited to welcome Nitin to BlueMountain,” says Rosen. “His extensive expertise in evaluating opportunities presented by the equity capital markets is a major asset for our long-short equity strategy, which also covers industrials, energy, and financials, and will eventually include a range of other equity sectors.”
Prior to joining BlueMountain, Dewan was Head of Event-Driven and Special Situations at BlueMar Capital Management, where he managed a strategy designed to capture alpha from systematic mispricings of stocks around equity capital market events. Previously, Mr. Dewan was a Primary Strategies Analyst at Alyeska Investment Group, a multi-billion-dollar equities fund, and held analyst positions at Shumway Capital Partners and Blackstone. He began his career at McKinsey & Company. Dewan received his MBA from Harvard Business School and holds Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology degrees in Microelectronics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Dewan’s hiring is part of the expansion of the firm’s fundamental long-short equities team led by Rosen. Earlier this year, Sanket Patel and Mahmood Reza joined as Portfolio Managers of Global Energy and Global Financials, respectively. BlueMountain also promoted Jared Gould from Senior Analyst to Portfolio Manager of Global Industrials and hired two analysts for the Global Industrials team and an analyst for the Global Energy team. The firm plans to hire more sector portfolio managers and supporting analysts in the coming months.
The expansion of fundamental long-short equity investment strategies complements the firm’s quantitative and systematic equity investment strategies, led by Perry Vais.
