A UK judge has ruled that British hedge fund trader Anthony Patterson can be extradited to Denmark, where he is facing charges that he played a part in a Cum-Ex trading scam that defrauded the Danish tax authorities of around $1.2 billion, according to a report by The Financial Times.
Judge Timothy Godfrey ruled that Patterson should face trial in Denmark alongside Solo Capital Partners founder Sanjay Shah for his alleged role in a tax reclamation scheme involving Danish dividend taxes. Earlier this month a Dubai court refused to extradite Shah to Denmark but that Danish authorities are appearing that decision.
Skat, the Danish tax agency, has also brought a £1.5bn civil lawsuit in London’s High Court to pursue more than 100 financial institutions, as well as Shah and Patterson, for lost tax payments between 2012 and 2015.
Both Patterson and Shah deny any wrongdoing.
