Maxwell Lee, the former systematic commodities trader at Jain Global, has made a return to banking as a Managing Director at JPMorgan, after leaving Bobby Jain’s hedge fund firm earlier this year, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Lee, 29, spent around ten months at Jain Global’s Houston office following his move into hedge funds from Bank of America, where he became one of the youngest MDs in the bank’s history at age 27, heading global commodities investor products.
The reasons behind Lee’s departure from Jain Global earlier this year remain unclear. During his tenure, the hedge fund maintained modest gains in commodities, including after its acquisition of natural gas marketing firm Anahau Energy in September. Lee was among multiple traders in Jain’s commodities team who left within a year of joining, highlighting ongoing turnover in the group.
Lee’s new role at JPMorgan has yet to be publicly detailed, and it is not known whether he will remain in Houston.
