London-based Explorer Capital has launched The Explorer Russia Fund, a dedicated long/short equity fund seeded by DB Advisors Capital Management, part of Deutsche Bank’s Asset Management division.

DB Advisors was one of the initial investors in Explorers’ first fund, the Explorer Emerging Europe Fund, which is up 33% net since inception in November 2006 with an annualised volatility of 5%.

The Russia Fund will be managed by Steffen Gruschka, Managing Partner and CIO of Explorer Capital. Gruschka says, ‘I have been managing Russia portfolios for 9 years and whilst Russia has evolved dramatically the investment universe has also increased substantially. The investment opportunities remain highly compelling, particularly in the industrial, infrastructure, financials and real estate sectors’.

The new fund will have a long bias and will seek out opportunities in the small and mid cap sector while maintaining a balance using large cap positions.

Ashwan Khanna, Managing Partner/ COO of Explorer Capital adds, ‘The Russia fund will build on the success of our Emerging Europe Fund which has significantly outperformed the market since inception. We believe that our experience in the region coupled with Russia’s unique mix of opportunities will together prove attractive to institutional investors looking for a newer investment destination.’
