Benjamin Nicholas Turner, a 26-year-old former Barclays trader has been promoted to partner at BlueCrest, marking an unusually fast rise within one of London’s best-known hedge fund organisations, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Turner, who joined BlueCrest after starting his career on Barclays’ sterling rates trading desk, was made partner on 1 May, according to a regulatory filing. The promotion comes just three years after he left banking for the hedge fund.
The appointment places Turner among profit-sharing partners at BlueCrest, the family office of Mike Platt. Recent financial disclosures show partners at the firm have earned close to £1 million on average in a recent reporting period, underscoring the financial significance of the role.
Turner’s elevation stands out due to his age and limited post-graduate experience. Most partners at BlueCrest have significantly longer careers in trading, often spanning major investment banks and decades in the industry before reaching similar positions.
Other recent promotions at the firm include senior figures with extensive backgrounds at institutions such as Bank of America and BNP Paribas, highlighting how unusual Turner’s rapid advancement is by comparison.
At just 26, he is the youngest partner currently listed in BlueCrest’s London operation, where the next youngest partner is in their early 30s with prior experience at major global banks including Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan.
