Anthony Vaccarino, a former Portfolio Manager at Steve Cohen’s SAC Capital Advisors, has teamed up with his old boss again joining Point72 Asset Management’s capital markets team, where he will report to Andrew McEntire.
In his new role, Vaccarino, who was running his own hedge fund North Fourth Asset Management before joining Point72, will work with teams across the firm’s long-short equity strategies.
During his time at SAC, Cohen’s first hedge fund firm, Vaccarino was subpoenaed and questioned by federal prosecutors during the Department of Justice’s long-running investigation into the business.
The probe was in connection with possible insider trading at SAC, with Vaccarino the fifth of the the firm’s executives to be quizzed – though never charged – after Cohen, COO Sol Kumin, President Tom Conheeney, Head of Compliance Steve Kessler, and Head of Trading Phil Villhauer.
SAC ultimately closed down after paying a $1.8bn fine, with Cohen also banned from running outside money for two years as part of the settlement. He launched Point72 to trade his own money in 2014 before opening the firm to external investors in 2018.
According to Point72’s website, the firm now employs more than 2,000 people and manages over $32bn.
