PEGAS, the pan-European gas trading platform operated by Powernext, achieved its highest monthly volume of 2018 in October with 191.5 TWh traded during the month. A strong spot segment supported this increase, as well as a flurry of activities on TRS Spot ahead of the French zone merger leading to a final record with 8.2 TWh (previous record: 5.7 TWh in March 2018). Trium Capital, the London-based independent specialist alternative asset manager, is partnering with Ellington Global Asset Management to launch The Ellington Trium Alternative Credit UCITS, a long/short credit UCITS fund. The State Street Global Investor Confidence Index decreased to 84.4 in October, down 3.4 points from September’s revised reading of 87.8. Confidence among European investors waned, with the European ICI decreasing from 100.2 to 90.9. The North American ICI declined by 2.6 points to 81.8. Meanwhile, the Asia ICI dropped 0.3 points to 99.6.   The Investor Confidence Index was developed by Kenneth Froot (pictured), and Paul O’Connell at State Street Associates, State Street Global Exchange’s research and advisory services business. It measures investor confidence or risk appetite quantitatively by analysing the actual buying and selling patterns of institutional investors.
The European Energy Exchange (EEX) will conduct a secondary market auction for European emission allowances (EUAs) on behalf of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia. The auction is scheduled for 16 November 2018 with the bidding window being open from 09:00 to 11:00 (CET). The auction volume amounts to 3,126,500 EUAs. The European Energy Exchange (EEX) increased volumes on its power derivatives markets by 30 per cent in October to 339.3 TWh (October 2017: 261,3 TWh). In particular a four-fold increase in Phelix-DE Futures to 204.4 TWh as well as power futures for Italy (60.9 TWh, +42 per cent) and Spain (9.1 TWh, +32 per cent) contributed to this development. Neuberger Berman has broadened its alternative investment platform with the acquisition of specialist asset manager Cartesian Re, which, with its affiliate Iris Re, manages more than USD1 billion in assets under management (AUM) focussing on the insurance-linked strategies (ILS) asset class. Cartesian Re was developed as a portfolio company of Cartesian Capital Group, which will work with Neuberger Berman to deliver ILS capabilities to clients globally. The addition of Cartesian Re illustrates Neuberger Berman’s continued focus on diversifying its alternative capabilities, particularly with strategies offering returns uncorrelated with financial markets. New York-based investment firm Wilshire Phoenix has partnered with crypto storage solution Coinbase Custody to launch a new institutional fund by the end of 2018. EEX Group is restructuring its business in Asia through a reorganisation of the services offered by its wholly owned subsidiary CLTX.
