Timberland Investment Resources Europe (TIR) has held a first close of its TIR Europe Forestry Fund with an initial USD74 million of committed capital.
A diverse, mostly European group of limited partners made initial commitments to the fund, including public and private pension plans, insurance companies and family offices.
TIR has a value oriented approach and will be targeting 8-10 per cent returns with 3 per cent annual distributions.

Oaktree, formed in 1995 and headquartered in Los Angeles, is an alternative investment management firm with expertise in credit strategies and over USD98 billion in AUM.

Hedge funds gained 0.65 per cent in August according to the Barclay Hedge Fund Index compiled by BarclayHedge. Year to date, the Index is up 3.37 per cent.

The September 2016 Eurekahedge Report finds that, over August, hedge funds witnessed their fourth consecutive month of outflows with investor redemptions totalling USD23.8 billion during this period.
However, total hedge fund assets have grown by USD17.6 billion over the past eight months with the industry's total assets currently standing at USD2.26 trillion, the firm says. Eurekahedge writes that the USD800 billion long/short equity hedge fund space has seen investor redemptions of USD19.5 billion over four consecutive months ending August. The Eurekahedge Long/Short Equity Hedge Fund Index is up 1.50 per cent for the year.
